NORTHWEST TARRANT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

Leadership Northwest is a dynamic leadership development training course for current    and emerging community leaders.  The course includes nine months of intensive training, which focuses on leadership development and knowledge of the community. 

The class will meet for a retreat and orientation and then meet monthly during the following nine months.  The monthly sessions will teach students leadership skills and about the needs and resources in the community.  Leadership Northwest  focuses on the northwest quadrant of Tarrant County and south Wise County.

The program was launched in 2006 with participation from the Northwest Tarrant, Saginaw and South Wise County Chambers of Commerce.  The Azle Area Chamber of Commerce joined the program later. 

Here are some of the comments made by the first year's participants.

"I have lived here for almost 20 years and I learned more about Northwest Tarrant County in this program than I have since I have lived here."

"We were able to meet important people that I probably would never have had the opportunity to meet."

"When I saw we were going to talk about transportation issues, I thought we would learn how to get a stop sign on a neighborhood street.  Instead we talked about the big transportation issues that affect our region."

"We went to the engraving plant and we were able to go up in the control tower at Alliance--places that most people don't ever get to go."

"The mayor spoke at one of our sessions.  Later, I happened to see him somewhere else and he called me by name. If I had not gone to this program, he would never have known who I was."
